Case Study: When the electrical contractors we’d hired told us they couldn’t do the wiring for our tiny house on wheels, Dave McClain of McNetworks stepped in and took over. His experience with both standard home and mobile electrical systems was just what we needed to bring our little house to life. We’ve been in our tiny house a year now and traveled over 3,000 miles, and Dave’s work has stood the test of time.

Being mobile, our house has a very complex electrical system. The main AC wiring is run outside of the walls in conduit to allow for more insulation and is powered by either solar panels or a “shore power” cord. There are two separate 12v DC power systems, one for the trailer itself and one for accessories like the motor for our slide out room. In addition to interior lighting, there were trailer running lights for use while it’s being towed on the road. And a “mini split” air conditioner provides heating and cooling.

Dave installed, plumbed, wired, and tested all of this, and sourced all the parts for the electrical fixtures. Those parts were custom selected, being outside the walls meant all the fixtures had to be specially sourced. There were light switches, dimmer switches, USB charger outlets, a water pump, and gas detectors. Dave had to source surface mount electrical boxes (both indoor and outdoor rated), all the electrical outlets and switches, a myriad of parts both AC and DC, with matching faceplates to make it all look finished. All the parts from all these vendors coordinate nicely to give the “steampunk chic” look we wanted in the house.

Working on a project with such tight space constraints was a challenge and change orders were frequent, but Dave worked with us and produced a result that we’re happy to call home. We’re glad to recommend him to others as an experienced and hard-working contractor, and a good man to do business with.

This was our first RV and we were aware that the seller would not come below his asking price. We asked David to do an inspection of this 4 or 5 year old vehicle and we were expecting to have to replace the tires and maybe the batteries. The inspection revealed much more than that; the biggest red flag for me was an almost blocked ac filter which looked original, if this filter was blocked then what of the other filters? Suffice it to say thanks to David's 223 page report we did not move forward with this purchase and he saved us a ton of money. I can absolutely recommend this inspector for his thorough and impartial inspection that included a large amount of pictures - Thanks David.

We are from OR, this was our second RV Inspection in less than 3 weeks. The most important thing I have to say to anyone considering whether or not to spend the money, is 100% get an inspection. The first RV was in WA, (which I really loved based on the video, photos and information the salesman had provided), I had no red flags. But wanting to use wisdom, we decided to get an inspection (this was with a different inspector). Sadly, it failed terribly, including some major safety issues, and the dealer was not willing to fix anything. We not only saved a lot of headache and hassle, but also so much money. I also learned a lot in the process, this being our first RV and an inspector who took the time to educate me. Then I found this RV in AZ, still far away, I couldn't find what we wanted in OR! As much as I hated to spend that much money again, knowing it might not result in a purchase, I couldn't risk not doing it. I learned a big lesson from my first go around, I wouldn't even think of buying without an inspection. In addition, this RV had some unique issues, previous owner mods, so I needed special attention given to them. After 2 other inspectors didn't feel comfortable inspecting with the electrical mods, I spoke with David in depth regarding the issues and felt confident in his knowledge. After he did the inspection, to be honest, we had a few communication challenges, but David went the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied. I realize that it was more challenging because I had not even seen the RV in person, and I was relying completely on his eyes, his knowledge, and I was looking for a lot of verbal feedback, like I had with my 1st inspector. Not necessary fair to David. In the end, we have decided to purchase after the dealer agreed to correct everything that we requested, based on David's inspection report. We will be picking up our "still unseen" RV in a few weeks. I am thankful for the information David provided and all the items we were able to address with the dealer because of his report. David did an incredible job on this inspection. He examined and photographed virtually every nook and cranny. He did not mince words. There were so many things wrong with this vehicle that I had a hard time reading to the end. He provided a thorough report. I am so glad to have found him. He saved me from purchasing a vehicle that needed at least $10,000 in repairs to even make it acceptable. I highly recommend his services to anyone in the greater Phoenix area. I am looking to purchase a different RV that is located in the Chicago area. I just wish David could inspect this one!

I've worked with Dave on several inspections as an RV Broker. First of all, he is reliable, very thorough, and objective. He's very personable, yet professional. Dave is willing to share feedback with the seller and in one instance, the seller repaired what he mentioned on the spot. My advice is to let Dave do his work uninterrupted as the more any inspector is engaged in conversation, the longer the inspection will take (5-7 hours if not distracted). Thanks to Dave I avoided having a dealer located in Tucson Az deliver a new Newmar RV to me in Texas that had way to many issues for a new RV to have, severely damaged entrance door, oil leak in engine oil pan, engine hood was drastically out of alignment, Oasis would not work, runs in paint and many other items. Dave’s report was very detailed and I appreciate his time and effort in performing a very thorough inspection. Having held the position of Chief Inspector at a very large Chemical Facility for over 30 years and an inspector for another 15 years I can surly tell when an inspector performs his assigned task in a thorough, detailed and professional manner and Dave sure did.
